Go-Ride and Clubmark

Clubmark is Sport England’s cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections. If the club registers as working towards Clubmark, the process can take a few months, but the Go-Ride Development Team will support the club every step of the way. The reward for the club’s effort comes via recognition through Clubmark, which proves they are observing best practice in child protection, coaching and competition, equity and club management.

For parents or young cyclists, it provides confidence to know that your local Go-Ride club is safe, well-managed and an exciting place to be.

All British Cycling qualified coaches meet the criteria necessarily outlined in the through Clubmark. For example they will have taken a course in safeguarding and protecting children, they will have a valid first aid certificate and have an enhanced disclosure from the criminal records bureau.

Minimum requirements for Go-Ride Clubmark Accredited clubs are the same as register Go-Ride clubs plus:

At least one Qualified British Cycling Coach
A Club Contact willing to have his/her details published
A Club Welfare Officer must provide evidence of adopting British Cycling’s Policy and Procedures for the protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults with a ‘Safeguarding Young People’ trained Welfare Officer
Provide Evidence of adopting British Cycling’s Equity Policy – coaches equity trained
The Club management structure must be documented providing published membership fee and pricing policy for young people
Evidence of an active constitution with regular communication with members

What does the club gain from becoming Go-Ride Clubmark Accredited?

Publicity: club details on British Cycling Website and help with event promotion
School Links: to encourage more youth and junior club members
Ongoing support: from a network of Regional Development Managers and Go-Ride Coaches
Resources: including; a Coaching Kitbag, Go-Ride Gears books for qualified coaches
Training: for coaches, club officials and other volunteers
Free Silver Membership: for up to seven nominated Club Officials
British Cycling: Go-Ride branded coaching jackets and polo shirts for qualified volunteers
Priority: and discounts at facilities

Many clubs are already practicing excellent operating standards such as having qualified coaches and communicating regularly with club members. Therefore all that is required is submitting evidence of those practices. However the key aspects a club needs to become a Go-Ride Clubmark Club are:

A volunteer to attend Safeguarding Young Person Workshop (www.sportscoachuk.org)
A Volunteer to attend an A Club For All Workshop (www.runningsports.org)
A volunteer to attend Level 2 Cycling Coaching Award - Coaching
Deliver regular coaching activities and attend regular competitive events.
Adopt a open and inclusive constitution
